Short Bio Organization
Aegean University (UOA) was founded in 1984 and it is situated in six islands of the Aegean Sea. It has almost 18,000 students and 650 employees. UOA consists of five Schools and eighteen Departments that offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in modern interdisciplinary thematic areas. Since 1984, UOA has implemented more than 2800 national and international projects.
The Department of Environment (DoE) was the first Greek Department (since 1987) offering undergraduate studies in Environmental Sciences. This period, additionally to the undergraduate studies, DoE also offers M.Sc. programmes in Greek and participates in the international Master in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (MESPOM) which has been funded by Erasmus+ (https://mespom.eu/). UOA will participate in this project with Water and Air Quality Laboratory (WAQL) that has important expertise on topics such as wastewater treatment and reuse, water pollution and management.
Relation with HYDROUSA
UOA will contribute to the development of the saltwater desalination system and to the design and implementation of the bio-electrified wetlands for UASB effluent treatment and the composting reactor for sludge treatment. UOA will also be involved in the preparation of the agricultural sites in Lesvos Island and will also support the management and the operation of the site in Lesvos. UOA will finally implement several dissemination and communication activities for HYDROUSA.
