HYDROUSA providing solutions!
Hydrousa aims to enhance water quality, conserve resources, and mitigate the impacts of water scarcity. The commitment to integrating nature into water management practices not only improves the environment but also helps to create resilient and thriving communities.
Hydrousa’s efforts in implementing nature-based solutions, and closing water-loops, play a vital role in promoting a more sustainable and harmonious relationship between human activities and the natural water cycle. Nature-based solutions (NBS), compared to other water and nutrient recovery technologies, are a more sustainable and cost-efficient option to close water and nutrient cycles.
Significant innovation has taken place over the last decades, making NBS more efficient, reducing their spatial footprints, and specifically adapting them to different operational contexts.
The following leaflets, developed in the frame of the Horizon2020 innovation action project HYDROUSA by project partner Alchemia Nova, target five diverse contexts in which NBS can be applied to recover and reuse water and nutrients, namely
- Agriculture
- Cities
- Rural settlements
- Industries
- Coastal zones
They were developed based on an extensive collection of the latest demonstrated innovations employing NBS and out of the applied findings of HYDROUSA applications. The leaflets include:
- A briefing on the main challenges that these contexts face and which could be mitigated by applying NBS to close water and nutrient cycles
- An overview of suitable NBS options and their position within the system of circular water and nutrient flows accompanied by an illustration, and
- A geographical map indicating the locations of reference projects.
