Hacking The Future Of Sustainable Development: A Hackathon on Circular Economy by Impact Hub Athens, powered by Hydrousa 27-28 April
Submissions Deadline 7th of April 2023
AWARDS: 3000 & ACCELERATION SUPPORT
Climate change, biodiversity loss and resource depletion require urgent response due to their significant impacts on our environment, economy, and society. The effects are already visible on the communities around the world.Immediate actions are required to prevent further damage and ensure a sustainable and resilient future by conserving resources, promoting sustainable practices, and developing innovative solutions.
HYDROUSA is joining OpenClimAccelerator 2023, for the organization of a Hackathon with the scientific support of NTUA, to allow local and international teams to work together to develop real solutions to these pressing problems .
This is a great opportunity to bring together individuals with diverse skills and expertise to tackle the environmental challenges we are facing. Through collaboration, creativity, and innovation, we can develop solutions that promote sustainability, protect the environment, and improve the quality of life for communities around the world.
Our goal is to bring together a cross-section of the green, blue, or environmental community, from business and finance to government officials, national and international policymakers, civil society, and academia, and provide support, networking, and funding opportunities – grants to help initiatives reach the next level and scale their activities and impact.
For one and a half days, on the 28-29 of April, selected participants will have the opportunity to deepen their projects, receive feedback from experienced mentors, and present their ideas/solutions to a panel of judges. Three of them will have the chance to win 3,000 euros and 2 months of acceleration support, while up to 10 greek based initiatives will be selected for STAGE A of OpenClimAccelarator, where they can participate in diagnostic sessions and development planning, business workshops, coaching and mentoring, and have access to digital tools and resources, as well as Impact Hive events. We particularly encourage ideas or solutions on the following topics:
Natural resource conservation: how can we close the loop on physical resources in both rural and urban areas? How can we secure or initiate regenerative solutions that efficiently secure water, energy, and food for our communities while conserving our natural resources? Could these solutions work in a decentralized way and add flexibility to our systems? Are these systems based on a nature-based solution approach with low energy profiles?
Circular Economy: How can we move to more circular resource management and move away from linear models of production and consumption?
NetZeroFuture: How can we reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero as much as possible, with the remaining emissions being reabsorbed from the atmosphere, for example by the oceans and forests?
We encourage ideas and solutions that come from and/or serve underrepresented communities, promote gender equality (no discrimination, percentage of femininities in leadership positions), create new and/or equitable employment opportunities, and raise awareness or actively engage local communities or, more broadly, encourage active citizenship.
