The HYDROUSA Team had the chance to be part of the Ecomondo 2022 and provide tangible results on decentalised water reuse! The co-organised by NTUA workshop was titled : Water Project Europe – Challenges and eco-innovation actions addressing water scarcity and drought in Mediterranean countries
The degree of water scarcity and its political, economic and social implications are felt much more severely in regions like the Mediterranean, where climate change is coming at a very high pace. In the last 50 years, the total water demand has doubled as a result of demographic pressure and from the development of water-intensive activities, such as tourism and manufacturing. Water quantity and quality challenges together with proper strategies for integrated water management, considering irrigation, energy production, and domestic and industrial use, need to be properly addressed. International collaboration and innovation actions are preferable mechanisms to tackle these challenges from a technical and socio-economic point of view.
